Jan Sewa Nyas, a social service organization active in the Meerut city of Uttar Pradesh had established a school to deliver education based on traditional Indian Sanskaras (good virtues). The school, constructed in ‘Madhav Kunj’ near Meerut with the help of the people behind Sewajyoti, was named after Late Sh. Radheshyam Ji Morarka. The school, Radheshyam Morarka Saraswati Vidya Mandir, has gained praise from various dignitaries, political figures and celebrities for its ideal curriculum and objectives. The school, not just provides formal education to local students, it also invites students from different parts of the country, especially the north east and imparts multi-faceted, meaningful education to them.

Most of the students coming to the school belong to economically weaker sections of the society who cannot afford to study in good schools. The school teaches them, instills good virtues in them and trains them to be financially self reliant after they pass out. One remarkable achievement of the school is that it has helped them master the Hindi language in which they were not very proficient earlier. Hindi is the medium of education in the school.

The students live in the hostels where traditional Indian rural atmosphere has been created. The infrastructure includes educational centre, hostel, dispensary and goshala. The children are imparted sanskaras such as patriotism, cooperation, coexistence, brotherhood and self-reliance.

According to the school's philosophy, the child is the centre of all our aspirations. He is the protector of our country, Dharma (Religion) and culture. The development of our culture and civilization is implicit in the development of the child’s personality. A child today holds the key for tomorrow. To relate the child with his land and his ancestors is the direct, clear and unambiguous mandate for education. We have to achieve the all round development of the child through education and sanskar i.e. inculcation of time honored values and traditions.

For fullest development of the personality of the children besides following the curricular & co-curricular subjects and activities given by the affiliating Board the school also follows the following subjects to bring up the fullest development of the the chidlren in schools:

In another contribution to the society, Dwarikesh group had presented a Maruti Ambulance to Sewa Bharti which is an organization working for the patients living in rural areas. The ambulance, bought at Rs. 2.40 lakh, is being used by the organisation to provide free mobile medical facility to rural people in and around Bijnor.

COMMUNAL HARMONY

The spirit of tolerance and assimilation are the hallmarks of Indian civilization, and Shekhawati is no exception to this. Baba Ramdev festival is a shining example of how different communities find common ground here as they come together and celebrate in each other’s presence. In this land, such examples can be found in abundance; however there are elements who occasionally try to disturb the internal peace which is an intrinsic part of our social fabric. Never has the question of communal harmony and social integration raised such a wide range of emotions as today. Considering this, Sewajyoti attaches utmost importance to the promotion of communal harmony and a sense of brotherhood among communities.

Sewajyoti regularly conducts events, congregations and meet ups to celebrate festivals of different communities with an active involvement of their members. On one hand, it celebrates Diwali and on the other Id-ul-fitra. Needless to say, people from all religions and castes take part in these programmes and further strengthen the bond of brotherhood that traditionally exists between them. Such occasions often take emotional turns with people hugging and congratulating each other. While Muslims, Sikhs and Christians take part in Diwali celebrations, Hindus come to attend Id festival with their Muslim brothers. On the occasion of Holi, people from diverse background gather to enjoy the festival of colours while during the month of Ramzan Hindus rush to congratulate Muslims attending Sewajyoti’s Iftar parties.

With these celebrations, Sewajyoti tries to re-emphasize the glorious tradition of togetherness, mutual respect, tolerance and regard for other religions that are in existence in India for ages.

Simple opportunities to sit together and discuss, respect each other’s sentiments and religious traditions, and understand other communities’ viewpoints makes a lot of difference in preservation of our Ganga Jamuni Culture.

Apart from religious festivals, Sewajyoti also celebrates important events such as Independence Day, Republic Day, Women’s Day, AIDS day, Disabled Day and Girl Child Day.

Celebrations also take place on the birth anniversary of Late Sh. Radheshyam R Morarka, whose life and selfless contributions to the society have been the inspiration behind our organization. Similarly, his death anniversary is also celebrated when we take a resolve to selflessly work in the service of the society and the country.

A healthy society is a strong and vibrant society. It has ambitious plans for future and means to translate them into reality. On the contrary, a society high in number of unhealthy and physically weak people cannot live up to modern day challenges where mere living cannot be the sole objective of life. Unfortunately, India faces daunting challenges on the health front which is affecting our march to be a successful, industrialized and powerful nation. Sewajyoti believes that governments alone cannot wipe out diseases and unhealthy living conditions prevailing in many parts of the country. These social problems need every citizen’s collective involvement and support to be done away with. More importantly, social service organizations, charity bodies, trusts, volunteers, religious organisations and other good souls must come together to get India rid of age old menace of diseases and a lack of hygiene.

The World Health Organization (WHO) defined health in its broader sense in 1946 as "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." Sewajyoti agrees with the observation and our activities in the field of health, medicine and well-being are articulated keeping this in mind.

Until recently, Nawalgarh presented a disappointing picture as far as treatment of serious diseases was concerned. The city had no hospital that was equipped with modern technology, machines and expertise to deal with the modern day maladies. People inflicted with heart disease, cancer and other serious problems had no other option but to go to Jaipur and other cities wasting lots of money, time and effort. Realising this, Sewajyoti decided to build a large hospital with modern health facilities and expert doctors to bring relief to the people of Nawalgarh and its adjoining areas. The 30 bed hospital, named Radheshyam Morarka Medical Institute was inaugurated in December 2006. Since then, it has provided high quality medical facilities to lakhs of people in the area. Rising demand necessitated expansion of facilities which resulted in new cottage wards being built in the subsequent years.

A cure-all institute in rural habitat

Radheshyam Morarka Medical Institute has facilities to treat heart disease, cancer, asthma, bone diseases, child diseases and women’s ailments. It has in-patient and out-patient consultation services, hospitalization facility and emergency services. Surgeries are also performed by expert in-house surgeons. The hospital has also tried to reach out to patients living in villages and hamlets by organizing extensive health consultation, treatment and surgery camps. These camps, attended by high number of people, are bringing about a gradual change on the health map of the area.

Many political and social personalities have visited the hospital and were impressed with the facilities available here. They included the former Vice President of India, Late Sh. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Minister of State for Health, Rajasthan, Dr. Rajkumar Sharma and former Speaker of Rajasthan Assembly, Ms. Sumitra Singh

Radheshyam Morarka Medical Institute has given special attention to disease which are seen 'differently' in the society due to lack of awareness. It has a centre to attend HIV Aids patients and a separate centre for treatment of tuberculosis. We believe that society needs to be informed about different aspects of such diseases so that the patients concentrate on the healing process rather than fighting the social taboos unnecessarily linked to their conditions.

The hospital also conducts health camps in its premises. In such camps, experienced doctors from Mumbai and Jaipur have provided their valuable services to local people. Without such arrangements, such specialized services are generally out of ordinary citizens' reach, especially in the rural areas.

Salient features of the hospital

The organization has also been coming to help people needing financial assistance. R R Morarka Charitable Trust and Sewajyoti distribute free blankets to the poor and homeless during winters. Different kinds of people coming from the weaker sections of the society are benefited from this blanket distribution programme which takes place on a regular basis in Nawalgarh.

They include elderly people, the poor, widows, destitute and handicapped. Children from poor families are also gifted with woolen sweaters and warm cloths. Though the blankets and sweaters cannot completely solve the problems of the homeless and poor but they at least help them in facing the cold weather to some extent.

Sewajyoti also organizes food distribution programmes for the people coming from the weaker, backward and ignored sections of the society.

Similarly, during natural calamities such as floods, the organization helps affected people with food-grains and other essential materials.

During the floods of 1999 in Orissa, Sewajyoti’s associated organizations had sent a truckload of food and clothes to the affected people. Similarly, during the disastrous earthquake in Gujarat, R R Morarka Charitable Trust, Narbada Devi Morarka Charitable Trust, Dwarikesh Sugar Industries Limited and RR Morarka Public School had made a contribution of Rs. 3 lakh to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

In September 2001, when 21 people of village Chamrol died in a road accident, Narbada Devi Morarka Charitable Trust had provided financial assistance to the kin of the deceased and the injured.
